3 Movie Reviews + New LOST Theory + Sideways IQ Test

Rented three movies this past week while up in Tahoe. Here are my reviews of each in the order they were watched.

1) Charlie Wilson’s War

Very good movie. Not excellent, but very good. Based on the real life of congressman Charlie Wilson who, when it was all said and done, ended up raising over 2 billion dollars (from 5 million) to fund the Afghani fighters’ defense against the Soviets during the Cold War. Definitely recommend you see it. Informative and very entertaining. Plus naked strippers and blow to keep it light.

Grade B+

2) Lars and the Real Girl

Starring Ryan Gossling from the chick flick of all chick flicks, The Notebook, and introducing “Bianca” the sex doll.

Basically the premise is that socially isolated and troubled Lars orders a sex doll, and instead of using it for sex, uses it as a girlfriend. Clearly a bizarre premise, which I obviously knew going in, but I was surprised by how good the movie turned out. Well acted and ultimately more touching and real than eccentric and bizarre. It starts off really quirky, but sit tight, it reels itself back in and gets good. Check it out.

Grade A-/B+

3) Dan In Real Life

Sorry to those who recommended this movie to me. Didn’t like it at all. I was leery of the Little Miss Sunshine resemblance in how it was marketed, since I hated that movie, but despite my fears, I pressed forwarded and rented it cause a few of my good friends really liked it.

Unfortunately something may be wrong with me, or you guys, but it felt like a sub-par sequel to Little Miss. Felt there was zero chemistry between the characters and none of it felt real or believable. A few of the scenes killed me, and not in the good way.

Grade D+ for the first hour and fifteen and then last 20 minutes or so, I felt it raised it to a C-. Agree to disagree.

And…

Updated LOST Theory…

Ben is God. Whitmoore is the Devil. The Island is Pergatory. That is what I am leaning towards as of late. We will see.

What are we all about? Who knows? Who cares? It’s too soon to say. We are a slow brewing stew and have just set the proper heat under the stove. We have yet to add bits of carrot and celery and whatever Brazilian bullshit my counterpart would add to a stew. It will take time. Care, whimsy, procrastination, will all be added. Wrong ingredients will surely be added as well, but it is all ok. It’s a process. We will figure it all out in time and hopefully serve up something nourishing and if all goes right, delicious. I agree Dan in Real life was disappointing. I like the lost theory. Hey did you see Into the Wild? I saw this weekend and enjoyed it greatly. I know you are a big Sean Penn fan so I am sure you saw it. It is funny that Sean Penn makes this film about this anti-materialism hero when he was married to the material girl Madonna.

Yeah. I saw Into the Wild twice. Really enjoyed the movie.
True on the latter comment. Funny.

Reminder to TW and the rest. Watch Sideways if you haven’t seen it. It is an excellent personality and IQ test and takes less than two hours to complete. For example, if you find it slow moving and boring, then that means you not only have a poor sense of humor, but also a very low IQ. Now if you don’t find it slow moving, but find it more pleasant and sort of have a good time with the film, then most likely there is nothing too wrong with you, but it is pretty indicative that most likely the best parts in life are flying under your radar unnoticed. So ok, but is ok, ok?
And finally, the big one (now, no cheating here)… If you find this movie to be incredibly witty, real, honest, and hilarious, then shit my friend, congratulations. Your IQ, sense of humor, and general worth as a human being are off the charts.
Now not to brag here or anything, but Sideways happens to be my favorite movie. Just imagine what that means.
So the pressures on. I hope you do well.

Also with LOST. Jack’s last name is Shephard which might mean that Jack could be Jesus Christ and his dad might be God/Jacob (since we ’saw’ Jack’s dad representing Jacob in a previous episode.) So Jack’s dad may be God and Ben being the messenger of God or God himself still. Not sure.

Interestingly enough my husband brought home Charlie Wilson’s war a week or two ago, very good movie.

Sorry, i can’t help but ask, what’s with the cat photo?
it jogged a few memories.

Thanks for the updates on LOST I need to find that one dvd, time to watch tv is rare.

I’ll look for the sideways movie.
