I haven’t followed this law too closely, but by being a liberal demo, i instictively side against it, but I have to say that I share many of the same feelings. Racial profiling is promoted as such a dirty seeming shameful practice but hell it feels like a necessary evil sometimes. I.E. We want air travel to be safe from the incendiary shoe bombers and want anyone who resembles these dudes in photos to be yanked out of line, but hush-hush don’t call it racial profiling. Such stupid hypocracy. All of us do it. If we were in an aiport and there was a middle easter looking all shifty, we would all be beggin for the guy to be stripped down to nothing.
In regards to illegal immigrants though… I don’t know. I hear what you say, but our country has a bad history with it’s treament of minorities and infringing on their rights. It’s why things like this gets so complicated resulting in marches led by Al Sharpton and what not. So, even if it makes sense to profile, the backlash is a result of our history of being bigotted morons.
I feel you though. To go through the proper channel and follow the rules and then have others being protected to whatever degree for not… has to be more than frustrating.
