Movie Reviews: Revolutionary Road/The Reader
I lump these two together because the effect that these two Oscar Nominated movies had on me were essentially the same.
And that is this… First off, I have to say that I like Leonardo DiCaprio. Titanic I could have done without. I actually saw it for the first, or second, or third time down in the jungles of Costa Rica. What an escape from reality that trip was. Anyways, seeing it dubbed in Spanish on the big screen was fairly entertaining given that I was in such a recluse area. But as I was saying, I like Leo’s performances in such movies as Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, and hell, even Romeo & Juliet. But Revolutionary Road…not so much.
Now with that out of the way, let me simply say this. Both of these movies sucked. They did. And what baffles me most is why Kate Winslet is regarded as a good actress. I don’t get it. You see this bitch working. The mechanics. The acting. To me its like theater acting. Forced and unnatural. Maybe done so to ensure that the person in the back row can see that she is reacting to something. You know, no subtleties. In Revolutionary Road, it was excruciating. In The Reader, nearly the same, however her constant nudity made it worth watching the performance. But take the nudity out and you are left with a pretty shitty movie. The young male actor in this, who was forced to be nude throughout, I felt actually gave a far superior performance. And, I’m not saying I was looking, but whatever was swinging between his legs, was rather substantial.
Recommend not seeing either.
