Scar Tissue -Book Review

I read this book a few years ago (and again last year) and just stumbled across it this afternoon. I’m not reading it for a third time at this point, but I wanted to point out that it’s one of my favorite books of all time.

I was just as surprised as you may be now.

Scar Tissue is an autobiography of none other than Anthony Kiedes, lead singer of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The book covers his colorful, foot-on-the-accelerator life from little tot to present day rock icon.

His triumphs and successes that we are all aware of, were equally matched and at times far over matched by his drug addiction and self destructive tendencies (which we all at least assumed). And it is odd, but for all the destruction and self harm, you get the sense that even in those moments and periods, he was still living his life full of love and gusto. He’s an interesting mix.

Highly, highly recommend this book. I don’t know why this book jumped off the bookstore shelf since I’m not a huge fan of the Chili’s, but something wouldn’t let me put it back. Grateful that I didn’t. The guy is witty, tough as nails, reflective, unflinchingly honest, and continues to live the hell out of his life with seemingly a tremendous amount of appreciation.  You’d think that this book would run the risk of being depressing giving all the negatives, but for whatever reason, it’s quite the opposite.

Grade A.

-I mailed this book down to DN last year. That’s how much I dug this book. Cause shit, that took a lot off effort, right?
