Stupid Is As Stupid Does
I really can’t believe what I just read. Go ahead take 60 seconds to read it.

Now if this had taken place in the deep south or something then I would have had a different reaction based on my own uniformed biases, but this all went down in Oceanside. A relatively well to do community just north of San Diego. I’ve actually substitute taught in some of these schools near a decade back. They’re just as well off as the schools I was reared in….so to speak.
Anyways, back to the story… What in the fuck could these dumb shit administrators be thinking to agree to something like this? This is so crossing the line, it is not even funny. Honestly, I feel that if the students revolted and started throwing desks through windows and were smashing teachers cars, I would feel that it would be largely understandable and arguably justified to some degree.
I mean, Christ, let’s recreate a little bit, shall we….
Police officer walks in. Has a somber tense look on his face. Kids already have a sick feeling seeing the cop, assessing that this has nothing to do w/ McGruff the Crime Dog. And then he (let’s assume its a he) regrets to tell them that several students that they intimately know have been brutally killed on the highway.
Can you even imagine?
I remember when a kid from my old high school was killed in a car wreck. It happened my freshman year I believe. Or possibly my sophomore year (let me know if I’m wrong Carrie). It was numbing and shocking to say the least. It was announced over the loudspeaker and I felt like I was going to fall out of my desk. It was heavy, heavy shit. And this was my reaction to someone I hardly knew. Imagine those who intimately knew a few of these people…
It is unfathomable to fuck w/ people’s emotions like this…
You know, I largely feel that I should be used to true stupidity by this point in my life, but I never cease to be amazed by it in professional adults. It shocks me every time. How this was green lighted is beyond my comprehension. I mean, could you imagine a parent doing this type of shit to a kid?
Mom walks in…
“Sit down Tommy.”
The kid’s little knees quivers immediately recognizing the heaviness in mommy’s face and voice.
“Tommy, I don’t know how to tell you this…..but…..(sigh)….You know all those toys that I told you to put away countless numbers of times…”
“But……”
“No buts, Tommy. This is beyond buts. ….I just wanted to let you know that your father tripped over one of your toys and broke his neck and…..well we’re going to have to go to the hospital so you can say goodbye….because….yes, Tommy, he’s not going to make it. You, killed your father.”
Kid turns white, falls on the floor, and rolls around in his vomit.
Mom shakes her head. Thinking to herself. “Ten more seconds. Tough love. Sometimes its necessary. Four….three…..two…..one.”
“Alright Jim come on in here.” Dad walks in.
“Hey sport.”
Kid spends the next thirty years in therapy.
So there you go. I don’t know what’s more disheartening. The fact that the school green lighted this or that near 35% of those polled in this article felt that this was justified.
Which means, if these polling figures accurately reflect the beliefs/intellect/whatever of the general population then a handful of you reading this are probably thinking that this school thing is not all that bad and may do some good.
In that case, I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you, but you are an f-ing moron. Now it’s not the end of the world (nor is this like the school ‘hoax’ where I’ll tell you I’m kidding at the end of all this) but there are things that you will be responsible for, if you so choose, in learning of this potentially unsettling news. Among these is, if you accept this reality, is in how you will conduct your actions from here on out. And since we’re dealing w/ the workplace in this example. Let’s focus on that…
Next time you are involved in a group discussion at work and something controversial comes down the pipeline and people begin taking sides… What I want specifically you to do is take….your….time. Resist the urge for a kneejerk reaction and/or decision. There are no shortcuts. Soul search. Meditate. Solicit the advice of coworkers whom you trust. Maybe even talk to your spouse. Though, warning, your spouse is most likely a moron too. Couples tend to marry laterally.
Now, after all of this. After you have finally come to your place of reasoned understanding. Stand strong. Listen closely to your gut…and do the exact opposite.
Remember you’re a moron.
