Good for you man. That will be a good contribution. Yeah, I found the Nietsche thing pretty funny. Clearly you have been doing your homework.

Yes, pretty scathing review of the guy who allegedly killed him. It is quite a leap and pretty irresponsible to make such judgments, especially when he wasn't there.

Alright finished the book tonight. I liked it, but it really brought on this feeling of melancholy. I can't really see how his wife kept together. I stopped before the telling of his death, not wishing to read about what I knew was going to happen.

So painful to read how his brother was told of his death.

I did actually find the breakdown of the events/cover-up interesting. Although classic Krakauer, he takes this tragic event and basically singles out a couple of people, making them responsible and making some big assumptions about their mental make-up. The guy who shots tillman has "A small man's complex" Any way the guy is eviscerated in print and it just didn't sit well with me. Krakauer did the same thing with Into Think Air.

Funny he ends with the same Nietzsche comparison I have of Tillman. Good book Krakauer still really bothers me.

I have a ton of other thoughts, but I am making a family tradition of doing the run in San Jose for his charity.

To comment back in reverse order on your comment...
Yes, they are our version of the Benson's, indeed on steroids. I thought of them as well, but of course to the nth degree (no knock on the Bensons of course).

Sorry about the 9ers game.

Didn't see the court case thus don't know about her grace. So sick what some people have to go through.

I will bring it by some time this week and will leave it on your doorstep like some version of the tooth fairy. The book fairy. Correction...a very masculine book warlock if you will who has no problem showing and expressing his feelings.

No, don't think you can date a guy after Tillman. I mean she could but how flacid would your penis be following up that guy? You're dick would just feel too outclassed.

As for the book. I am drawn to people and their character, thus the cover up and all that wasn't a big draw for me either. Government misdoings and business misdoings I assume are more the norm than the exception so nothing feels outrageous to me anymore. Just hope that they get busted from time to time so people get their justice. Best we can hope for. Fortunately the book covers mostly the intimates of this guy including a lot of excerpts from his journal and letters to his wife. The book explains a lot of the Iraq/Afghan situation so it is also informative, but not too lengthy on it. The book also mentions that Pat's mom wrote a book about her son called "Boots on the Ground" or soemething like that. I am actually interested in picking it up. She seems like she is a pretty tough and interesting cookie so at the very least I may thumb through it at the bookstore. Probably will buy it.

I would love to borrow it, this week if possible. Something about the story just really hooks me. I remember seeing something on his wife, can you date another guy after Pat Tillman? I mean she is a little young to be a widow. I imagine the book has a lot about him. Not really interested about a government cover up. That is rather depressing and uninspiring

GW, some of his interviews on the release of Under the Banner of Heaven were totally beyond the pale. Krakauer called the founder of the church a pedophile, but in much more crass terms. Dude clearly had an axe to grind.

Off topic, but did you see the Elizabeth Smart court case. The girl has a lot of grace for going through such hell.

Niners game sucked. They were down 35-10 at half and it took about 3 hours to get home.

Rome was the MC of the memorial. It was carried on ESPN. He and his brothers were like the Bensons on steroids. GW you wouldn't get that reference, but BN would.
